College Wide Organizations

Engineering Council
The Engineering Council consists of one representative from each of the professional organizations plus those officers elected by the College of Engineering student body. The main goal is to promote unity among the students in the different departments.

Tau Beta Pi
Tau Beta Pi is a national engineering honor society for all engineering disciplines. Seniors in the top one fifth and juniors in the top one-eighth of their classes are eligible. Members are eligible for graduate fellowships, life subscription to "Bent" magazine, and social activities. goTop

National Society of Black Engineers
NSBE is dedicated to the realization of a better tomorrow by increasing the participation of black students in engineering. NSBE promotes the recruitment, retention, and graduation of black students in engineering.

Society of Women Engineers
SWE unites women in the field and curriculum to promote engineering as a career choice. SWE encourages students with their studies, informs them of career opportunities, and counsels graduates.

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers
SHPE is a national Hispanic engineering society of students and professional engineers. The goal of the society is to recruit hispanic students into leadership in engineering. The society also serves as a link to the corporate world for its members.

Biological Engineering

Institute of Biological Engineers
IBE is open to all biological engineering students and other interested students. THe purpose of the organization is to give students a chance to meet practicing biological engineers. Activities include tours of companies, student/faculty parties, crawfish boils, and fundraisers.

Society for engineering in agricultural, food, and biological systems
ASAE is a not-for-profit professional and technical organization of members worldwide interested in engineering knowledge and technology for food and agriculture, associated industries, and related resources. ASAE, the society for engineering in agricultural, food and biological systems, coordinates educational opportunities such as technical sessions, workshops, conferences and tours at ASAE and other Society meetings with the purpose of communicating new research results, discussing applications and stimulating debate on important topics related to the collection of renewable resources and the processing of these resources for conversion to energy and industrial products.

Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society
The EMBS field of interest is the application of the concepts and methods of the physical and engineering sciences in biology and medicine. This covers a very broad spectrum ranging from formalized mathematical theory through experimental science and technological development to practical clinical applications. It includes support of scientific, technological, and educational activities. goTop

Chemical Engineering


American Institute of Chemical Engineers
The AIChE provides services to its members such as plant visits, book sales, regular monthly meetings with guest speakers from industry and elsewhere. Other activites include crawfish boils, library volunteer work, and intramurals.

Omega Chi Epsilon
The society of Omega Chi Epsilon promotes high scholarship, encourages original investigation in chemical engineering and recognizes the valuable traits of character, integrity, and leadership. It encourages meaningful student-faculty dialogue within the department. goTop

Civil and Environmental Engineering


American Society of Civil Engineers
The objective of the ASCE student chapter is to encourage its members to study civil engineering and to advance the civil engineering profession.

Chi Epsilon
Chi Epsilon is a national civil engineering honor society. Membership is open to the top one-third of the junior and senior civil engineering students. Improving the profession and encouraging the advancement of engineering education are among Chi Epsilon's objectives. goTop

Construction Management


Construction Student Association
CSA is an organization for Construction Management students which includes membership in the Home Builders Association, Associated General Contractors, Associated Builders and Contractors, and the option for membership in the American Institute of Constructors.

Sigma Lambda Chi
Sigma Lambda Chi is the honor society for Construction Management students. Members must be Juniors or Seniors in the department. goTop

Electrical and Computer Engineering


Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers
IEEE is actively helping to prepare students for a career in electrical engineering through a series of guest lecturers from industry, as well as enjoyable social events.

Eta Kappa Nu
Eta Kappa Nu is an electrical engineering honor society that consists of the top one-third of the seniors and top one-fourth of the juniors. Members participate in informal gatherings with electrical engineers and ECE faculty. goTop

Industrial Engineering


Institute of Industrial Engineers
The goals of IIE are fundraising, the recruitment of freshman, and information dissemination for keeping students abreast of department activities. Activities include guest speakers, socials, plant trips, and fundraisers.

Alpha Pi Mu
Alpha Pi Mu is a national industrial engineering honor society. Its members have demonstrated scholastic achievement, leadership, and sociability. Alpha Pi Mu encourages and rewards a high caliber of performance to help insure success within the industrial engineering profession. goTop

Mechanical Engineering


American Society of Mechanical Engineers
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers strives to develop leadership qualitites. ASME presents opportunities for students to learn professional engineering practices, meet with practicing engineers, and interact with faculty.

Pi Tau Sigma
Pi Tau Sigma is an honarary fraternity for mechanical engineers. It is comprised of the top one-third of the junior and senior classes. It holds inititations once per semester, as well as competitions and social functions. goTop

Petroleum Engineering


Society of Petroleum Engineers
SPE is committed to the growth of members toward eventual employment and leadership in petroleum related fields. Both social and professional contacts are provided and encouraged.

Pi Epsilon Tau
Pi Epsilon Tau, the Petroleum Engineering Honor Society, recognizes petroleum engineering students who have excelled in leadership and academics. goTop
