Implantation of an array of micro-heat exchangers beneath the surface of the stationary face of a mechanical seal to significantly improve its cooling, while eliminating the need for an external flush.

Anticipated benefits:

1) Dramatic reduction in seal interface temperature
2) No longer need to provide a seal flush for cooling
3) Improved reliability and performance along with reduced emissions
4) More uniform heat removal from the seal interface, resulting in improved long-term flatness
